Sonia Kalia BA (Hons), DipSW, MSc

My name is Sonia, I am an experienced Family Systemic Psychotherapist and a Social Worker. I have experience of working across the life span, with individuals, couples and families experiencing a wide range of issues. I strive to create a compassionate and safe therapeutic space for customers to confidently identify and build on their strengths.

As well as having my own small private practice based in West London, I work as a Family & Systemic Psychotherapist for a CAMHS Team in South West London. Alongside this work, I also tutor on a MSc Family & Systemic Psychotherapy course.

My Qualifications are:  B.A (Hons/Dip SW). Social Work, M.Sc. Family and Systemic Psychotherapy

I have over 15 years of practice specialism in working with children, young people and families within child protection and safeguarding contexts across various health and social care settings. I co-founded and lead a highly respected multidisciplinary service in a West London Local Authority – delivering specialist assessments and therapeutic treatments for customers known to social care and family courts. I am experienced in providing supervision and consultation to multidisciplinary and social work teams, as well as expert opinions to family court proceedings.

I run my own private practice with a focus on cultural sensitivity, deriving from my own cultural roots, which are embedded in England, India and Kenya. Nothing is more special to me than helping people of minority and diverse social groups realise their stories and experiences are important, that those stories and experiences have a meaningful place in the world.

I am in awe of how talk therapy can serve to empower and build individual resilience, relationships and social worlds. I believe life is a journey with moments of light and shade: ‘We must decide if we want to stay where we are or if we want to get to the other side of pain and live a full and purposeful life.’ (G. I offer online sessions for convenience, a face to face space can also be provided.
